1. About Get Furnished
Get Furnished is the trading name used for the online marketplace at getfurnished.co.za. The service is operated from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. References to “Get Furnished”, “we”, “us” or “our” mean the operator of this service.
Contact us at getfurnishedza@gmail.com. Our service connects people who want to buy and sell pre-loved furniture and provides marketplace tools for listings, messaging, payment protection, delivery choices, order tracking, disputes and seller payouts.
2. Accounts and eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract. One account may be used as both a buyer and a seller. You must provide accurate contact information, protect your password and promptly tell us if you believe your account has been compromised.
You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless it results from our failure to apply reasonable security measures. We may request information needed to verify your identity, ownership of an item, delivery details, payment, payout account or compliance with law.
A verified-seller badge means we reviewed the identification submitted for the account. It is not a guarantee of an item’s quality, a seller’s future conduct or the outcome of a transaction.
3. Our marketplace role
Get Furnished provides the marketplace and facilitates the order process. Unless a listing clearly states otherwise, the seller—not Get Furnished—owns and supplies the furniture. The buyer and seller are the parties to the sale of the item.
We may moderate listings, hold a seller payout, assist with communication and review evidence in a dispute. We do not routinely inspect, warehouse or take ownership of listed furniture. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act or other applicable South African law.
4. Seller and listing rules
A seller must:
- own the item or have clear authority to sell it;
- use current, genuine photographs taken through the listing flow and describe the item, condition, defects, dimensions and location honestly;
- set a genuine price in South African rand and keep the listing’s availability current;
- provide a complete private pickup address for delivery quotes;
- package or prepare the item reasonably for the selected delivery or collection method; and
- cooperate with order updates, support requests and legitimate disputes.
You may not list stolen goods, counterfeit goods, unsafe or recalled goods, prohibited goods, items you do not possess, misleading duplicate listings, or anything unlawful. We may review, edit the presentation of, pause or remove a listing where reasonably necessary for safety, accuracy or compliance.
5. Buying and item availability
Review all photographs, the description, condition and location before buying. Used furniture may show wear consistent with its disclosed condition. Ask the seller questions through Get Furnished before payment.
An item is not sold merely because a buyer opens checkout. The order becomes confirmed only after the payment provider verifies the full expected amount and our system successfully reserves the still-available listing. The first successfully verified purchase wins. If a later or duplicate payment is received for an item that is no longer available, it will be flagged for refund rather than creating another valid sale.
6. Prices, fees and protected payments
The checkout shows the item price, delivery charge and buyer-protection fee before payment. The current buyer-protection fee is 5% of the item price. Sellers currently pay no marketplace selling fee. We will display any future fee change before it applies to a new transaction.
Payments are processed by Paystack or another payment provider identified at checkout. Get Furnished does not store full card details. A payment confirmation from the provider is checked against the listing, buyer, currency and expected amount. Buyer protection is a marketplace process and is not a bank account, trust account, insurance product or legal escrow service.
The buyer authorises Get Furnished to delay the seller payout while delivery, inspection, cancellation, refund or dispute steps are incomplete.
7. Delivery and collection
Available methods may include a courier, PAXI, Uber Direct/Uber Connect or secure collection. Options depend on what the seller offered and the item’s size, pickup address and destination.
Courier and PAXI amounts shown without a live provider connection are estimates calculated from the information supplied. An Uber amount marked as live is obtained from the provider for the submitted route and expires after a short period. Delivery times are estimates, not guarantees. The selected delivery provider may apply its own terms and operational limits.
For collection, buyers and sellers should meet in a safe place, use the in-platform order process and never share a handover or confirmation code before the item has actually been received.
8. Inspection, problems, cancellations and refunds
After delivery or handover is recorded, the buyer should inspect the item promptly. The normal Get Furnished inspection period is 24 hours from the order entering inspection. If the buyer confirms the item is acceptable—or the inspection period expires without a reported problem—the order may be completed and the seller amount released for payout.
If the item is materially different from the listing, damaged beyond what was disclosed, not delivered, counterfeit, unsafe or suspected to be stolen, the buyer must report the issue promptly and provide photographs, messages, delivery evidence and any other reasonably requested information. We may hold the payout while reviewing the issue and may ask both parties to cooperate.
Any cancellation, cooling-off, repair, replacement or refund right available under applicable law continues to apply. Approved refunds are normally returned through the original payment method where possible. Provider and bank processing times may affect when money appears.
9. Seller payouts
The seller amount appears as pending while the order is active. Once the order is completed, the amount becomes available in the seller wallet. The seller must add a payout account held in their own name or authorised business name and submit a payout request.
Payout requests are reviewed manually before being sent through the payment provider. We may delay or decline a payout while identity, bank details, item ownership, payment, delivery, fraud, sanctions, dispute or legal concerns are unresolved. Sellers remain responsible for their own tax obligations and records.
10. Prohibited conduct
You may not:
- mislead, impersonate, harass, threaten or discriminate against another person;
- move a Get Furnished transaction off-platform to avoid protection or fees;
- manipulate prices, reviews, accounts, payments, refunds, delivery quotes or order statuses;
- upload malware, scrape the service without permission, bypass access controls or probe security;
- use another person’s identity, payment method, bank account or personal information without authority; or
- use Get Furnished for money laundering, fraud or any unlawful purpose.
We may preserve and share relevant records with payment providers, delivery partners, regulators or law-enforcement authorities where permitted or required by law.
11. Your content and our intellectual property
You retain ownership of photographs, descriptions, shop names and other content you submit. You grant Get Furnished a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, resize, display and distribute that content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure and promote the marketplace and its listings. You confirm that you have the rights needed to grant this licence.
The Get Furnished name, branding, interface, software and original site content belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy or commercially exploit them without permission.
12. Responsibility and liability
We use reasonable care to operate the service, protect payments and respond to problems. However, furniture is supplied by independent sellers and delivery is performed by the selected provider or the users themselves. We cannot promise uninterrupted access, that every user will behave correctly, or that an estimate will always match the final delivery outcome.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Get Furnished is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss caused by information a user deliberately supplied incorrectly, or events reasonably outside our control. Any limitation applies only where lawful and does not limit liability for fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused unlawfully, or any non-excludable consumer right.
13. Suspension, closure and changes
You may stop using the service at any time, subject to completing existing orders and lawful record-retention requirements. We may warn, restrict or suspend an account or listing where reasonably necessary to protect users, investigate a breach, prevent fraud, comply with law or enforce these terms.
We may update these terms as the service changes. Material changes will be dated and, where appropriate, brought to registered users’ attention. New terms apply prospectively unless law requires otherwise. Existing rights and confirmed transactions are not retrospectively removed.
14. South African law and complaints
These terms are governed by South African law. Before starting formal proceedings, please email getfurnishedza@gmail.com with the order reference and a clear description of the issue so we can try to resolve it.
You may also use remedies available through the courts, the National Consumer Commission, the Information Regulator or another competent regulator or ombud. Nothing in these terms prevents a consumer from approaching a body with jurisdiction.
